The FAQ

What is a "Day In The Life" session?

A Day In The Life is in-home documentary photography available in full day (8 hours), half day (5 hours) or mini sessions (3 hours). My goal is to spend a day with your family in order to get a meaningful glimpse into what this chapter of your life looks like. I won't be an invisible fly on the wall, I will be a guest in your home. I will take lots of photos, of course, but I will also interact, take breaks, chat, get to know you and play with the kids. After a bit of time, everyone will be quite used to me being there, and that is when the magic happens. Nothing is staged or posed (unless we take a minute for a quick portrait). You may go to the park, play games, put littles down for naps, wipe tears, tidy up...the more ordinary the better. At the end of it, you will have a collection of photos that tells the unique story of this phase of your family's life.

What if my children misbehave?

I have 5 kids. I've seen it all haha! Truly, while we will capture the joy and fun of your family, I am also interested in honoring all the other emotions that come with family life. Children are allowed to be children in my sessions and because we're not trying to get a perfectly posed photo in uncomfortable clothes in a short time frame, you can take a breath and rest assured that we are creating stunning images that will tell your beautiful story. Even in my shorter portrait sessions, I aim to keep things light and fun and bring out the beauty of your family dynamic.

What type of session should I book for my family photos?

I always recommend a Day In The Life documentary session! You don't have to worry about getting people dressed up or hoping your kids cooperate. You can just have a normal day, or plan an activity or two that you know you all enjoy. If you can't commit to a full or half day, book a 3 hour mini session and do something you love doing together during that time. What is something you enjoy doing as a family? You could go on a hike or walk, play at the park, play games or bake together at home. This makes for a good experience for both parents and kids- you're just having a nice day together! I'll tag along and take photos of your family and all of my Day In The Life sessions come with the option of also doing a portrait during our time together at no extra charge. It's the best of both worlds.

Do you do any posed photos?

All of my Day In The Life sessions include the option of doing a portrait during our time together. Additionally, I offer Customized Portrait sessions which take place in your home or other location that is significant to you (i.e. your favorite park or where you and your partner had your first date) and Mini Portraits. Outdoor sessions can be booked for ideal lighting conditions and while I still focus on genuine moments, I can also give direction to help elicit the connection and emotion we want to capture.

How long have you been doing this?

I have been taking photos since my (film!) photography class in high school. Over the years I've done many portraits and fell in love with documenting families when I had my own children. An online course reignited my passion at the start of 2021 and I officially launched my photography business in 2022.
